Independent supervision and surveys at the ports of Gemlik
From loading and discharge supervision to draft surveys and tally services, we observe, measure and document every stage of your cargo operation on site.
Why independent supervision?
Disputes are settled with records kept during the operation.
On-site observation
We follow the operation from the quay and the deck, not from a desk, and record our observations as events happen.
Documented, traceable records
Our findings are supported by time-stamped photographs, time logs and measurement data.
Impartiality and confidentiality
We report our observations independently and share operational information only with authorised parties.
Our services
End-to-end field support for loading, discharge and survey operations
Each service can be booked on its own or combined within the same operation.

Operation supervision
Loading and Discharge Supervision
Loading and discharge supervision is the independent monitoring and recording of cargo condition, quantity indicators and handling methods throughout a vessel's port operation. Its purpose is to give the parties an impartial, documented record in case of damage, shortage or delay disputes.

Survey
Draft Survey
A draft survey is an independent method of determining cargo weight by reading a vessel's draft marks before and after loading or discharge and calculating the change in displacement. It is widely used for dry bulk cargoes, either as an alternative to shore scale figures or to cross-check them.

Survey
Pre-Loading Survey
A pre-loading survey is an independent inspection that records and photographs the condition of cargo before it is loaded on board. It helps ensure that damage and defects existing before shipment are not later treated as damage sustained in transit.

Operation supervision
Container Loading and Discharge Supervision
Container loading and discharge supervision is the independent checking and recording of container numbers, seal and external condition, and stowage positions on board during the operation. Its aim is to document discrepancies and damage at the moment they occur.

On-site representation
Supercargo Services
A supercargo is a representative who attends port operations on behalf of the cargo owner or charterer and follows up that cargo is loaded, stowed and documented in line with their instructions. Acting as the principal's eyes and voice on site, the supercargo liaises with the vessel, the terminal and the agent.

Operation supervision
Lashing and Cargo Securing
Lashing is the securing of cargo on board with chains, wire, turnbuckles and chocks to prevent it from shifting or tipping during the sea passage. The service covers either carrying out the lashing or inspecting and supervising it; proper lashing is critical for the safety of the cargo, the vessel and the crew.

Operation supervision
Tally Services
Tally services involve counting and recording, unit by unit, the cargo loaded onto or discharged from a vessel. Tally results are compared with the manifest and loading lists to identify shortages or overages.

On-site representation
Port Captain Services
A port captain is a representative who attends the port on behalf of the owner or charterer, plans the vessel's cargo operation, coordinates between ship and terminal and follows up that the operation proceeds efficiently and safely. The role centres on the vessel's time in port and on carrying out the operation plan.

Where the operation is, when the operation happens
Karan Gözetim is based in Gemlik, Bursa, and provides supervision, survey and representation services for port operations. Loading and discharge are shaped by shifts, weather and terminal schedules, so we plan our team around the operation's timetable.
The port, the timing and the scope are assessed separately for each request and agreed at the quotation stage.

Silver nitrate testing on steel coils
We use the silver nitrate (AgNO₃) test on site to identify the source of rust, wetness and water staining on steel coils. When the solution is sprayed on the suspect area, a white, milky precipitate (silver chloride) forms if chlorides are present, showing that the wetting came from seawater. If there is no reaction, the moisture most likely came from fresh water, such as rain or condensation (sweat).

In-hold steel coil cargo inspections
Because of their weight and round shape, steel coils are among the riskiest cargoes at sea. Without correct stowage, sufficient dunnage and secure lashing, coils can shift when the vessel rolls, crush against one another and damage the ship's structure.

Steel coil discharge supervision
Every lift during a steel coil discharge carries risk for the cargo and for the people around it. During supervision we check that the lifting gear (C-hooks, slings, chains) is suitable for the cargo and that coils are moved without crushing or edge damage.

How are your fees determined?
Fees depend on the type of service, the duration of the operation, the port and the reporting scope. A separate quotation is therefore prepared for each request.
What is the difference between supervision and a survey?
Supervision means monitoring and recording an operation throughout. A survey establishes a specific matter, such as cargo quantity or the pre-shipment condition of cargo, through measurement and inspection. Both can be combined in one operation.
